So we’re starting to blog. How very exciting. Well I suppose I ought to post up a song that I am well and truly addicted to at the moment.

Here’s the 12” instrumental version of Blood HollinsDon’t Give It Up.  I don’t really know that much about Mr Blood other than he was a trumpeter and he made this record in 1976 which was apparently a bit of a Northern Soul classic.

I don’t actually like the first 3 minutes that much, but after this point it’s as if the band must start peaking on acid or mescaline or whatever they took back then as the next 6 minutes become an incredible psychedelic disco jam. It even has a bloody harp!

The rhythm section is totally on fire, the guitar licks are as sweet, the drumming insane and the trumpet is obviously brilliant.

It’s an incredible record and gets better the more you listen to it.  Now I just need to find a copy of it I can afford…
